repair an aluminium door

Challenge today was to repair an aluminium door that a few Locksmiths had been out to look at and said it couldn’t be done….

As you can see the top of the door was like a pepper pot where numerous attempts to repair it had failed, the closer bracket was completely shattered and not attached to the headstock!.

If you’re experiencing issues with your aluminum door, such as a loose hinge or a crack in the frame, don’t worry. With some basic tools and a little bit of know-how, you can easily repair an aluminum door yourself. In this blog post, we’ll go over the steps you can take to repair your aluminum door and get it back to working order.

Step 1: Identify the Problem

The first step in repairing an aluminum door is to identify the problem. Is the door sticking or not closing properly? Is there a crack in the frame or a dent in the door? Once you’ve identified the issue, you can move on to the next step.

Step 2: Gather Your Tools

To repair an aluminum door, you’ll need a few tools, including a drill, a screwdriver, a putty knife, and some sandpaper. You may also need some filler material, such as epoxy or aluminum putty, depending on the extent of the damage.

Step 3: Fix Loose Hinges

If your aluminum door has loose hinges, you can tighten them by removing the screws and inserting toothpicks or wooden dowels coated in wood glue into the holes before screwing them back in. This will create a tighter fit and prevent the screws from coming loose again.

Step 4: Repair Cracks and Dents

If your aluminum door has a crack or dent, you can use epoxy or aluminum putty to fill in the damaged area. Apply the filler material with a putty knife and smooth it out. Once it’s dry, sand it down until it’s smooth and level with the rest of the door.

Step 5: Replace Damaged Parts

If the damage to your aluminum door is severe, you may need to replace some of the parts. This could include the hinges, the handle, or even the entire frame. You can purchase replacement parts from a hardware store or online retailer.

Step 6: Reinstall the Door

Once you’ve completed the repairs, you can reinstall the door. Make sure all screws and hinges are tightened securely, and test the door to ensure it’s working properly.

In conclusion, repairing an aluminum door is a relatively simple process that can save you time and money. By following these steps, you can fix common issues with your aluminum door and get it back to working order in no time.
